Respectful Relationships
At St Leonards Primary School, building a safe, inclusive and respectful school culture is at the heart of everything we do. The Respectful Relationships program complements our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) approach by promoting empathy, resilience and strong interpersonal skills across all year levels.
Through weekly lessons, students learn how to develop and maintain healthy relationships, build emotional awareness, and respond to challenges with confidence and care. Each year, learning builds on the previous, supporting students to grow their understanding over time in age-appropriate ways.
The Respectful Relationships curriculum includes eight key focus areas:
Emotional Literacy
Personal and Cultural Strengths
Positive Coping
Problem Solving
Stress Management
Help Seeking
Gender Norms and Stereotypes
Positive Gender Relations
These topics are taught with sensitivity and care, in line with Department of Education guidelines, and support students in developing lifelong skills for wellbeing, inclusion and respectful engagement with others.
