Performing Arts

At St Leonards Primary School, our Performing Arts program gives students the opportunity to explore and express their creativity through music, drama, and movement. Aligned with the Victorian Curriculum, the program develops students’ confidence, imagination, and understanding of the arts while fostering a love of performance.

In the early years, students engage in singing, playing instruments, storytelling, and simple role-play. They learn to explore sound, rhythm, movement, and voice while developing the ability to express ideas and emotions. As they progress, students create and perform more complex pieces, learning to use dramatic elements, musical notation, and performance techniques.

Students also learn to appreciate and respond to the arts by exploring performances from different times, places, and cultures. They are encouraged to reflect on their own work and that of others, developing skills in communication, collaboration, and critical thinking.

By the end of primary school, students will be able to:

  • Use voice, movement, and instruments to create and present performances.

  • Apply the elements of drama and music in both individual and group settings.

  • Reflect on how the arts can communicate ideas, tell stories, and express cultural identity.

  • Work collaboratively and respectfully as performers and audience members.

Through Performing Arts, students at St Leonards Primary School develop creativity, confidence, and an appreciation of the arts as a powerful form of personal and cultural expression.
