Visual Art

At St Leonards Primary School, our Visual Arts program encourages creativity, self-expression, and a deep appreciation for the world of art. Students from all year levels engage in a wide range of artistic experiences that allow them to explore different materials, techniques, and styles.

A key feature of our program is the integration of artist studies and research projects. Students investigate the work of both historical and contemporary artists, learning about their unique styles, cultural backgrounds, and artistic techniques. These research projects not only deepen students' understanding of art history but also inspire their own creative practice.

Using what they’ve learned, students then create original artworks that reflect the techniques, themes, or styles of the artists they’ve studied. From drawing and painting to sculpture, collage and mixed media, students are supported to experiment, take creative risks, and develop their own artistic voice.

The Visual Arts program plays an important role in fostering critical thinking, personal reflection, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts. Our students are proud to display their work within the school and the wider community, celebrating creativity and learning through visual expression.
