Physical Education
At St Leonards Primary School, our Physical Education (PE) program provides students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to live active and healthy lives. Guided by the Victorian Curriculum, our program focuses on developing fundamental movement skills, teamwork, and an understanding of health and wellbeing.
Students participate in a wide range of activities designed to build their physical competence and encourage a lifelong enjoyment of movement. In the early years, the focus is on mastering fundamental skills such as running, jumping, throwing, catching, and balance. As students progress, they learn to apply these skills in increasingly complex movement sequences and games, developing strategies, coordination, and spatial awareness.
Our program also supports students to understand the benefits of physical activity, safe practices, and the importance of cooperation and fair play. They learn how to work effectively as part of a team, solve problems, and build resilience through both competitive and non-competitive activities.
By the end of primary school, students are equipped with the ability to:
Demonstrate control and accuracy in fundamental and specialised movement skills.
Apply strategies in games and physical activities.
Understand how the body responds to movement and the role of physical activity in maintaining health.
Show leadership, teamwork, and respect for others in physical activity settings.
Through PE, students at St Leonards Primary School develop not only their physical abilities but also their confidence, social skills, and love of being active - skills that will support their wellbeing for life.
